Prevention and Support is a mandatory training course designed to equip Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) with the skills and knowledge needed to safely and effectively support individuals during behavioral challenges.

The course emphasizes building positive relationships, applying positive behavioral support strategies, and using proactive interventions to reduce the likelihood of interfering behaviors. 

DSPs will learn to interpret what a person may be communicating through their behavior, understand the function behind that behavior, and teach appropriate replacement skills. The training also provides guidance on identifying true behavioral emergencies and outlines the least intrusive interventions to use first. When all preventative strategies have been exhausted and imminent danger is present, students will learn how to safely apply approved emergency physical intervention techniques. 

By the end of the course, students will be prepared to respond calmly, confidently, and respectfully during both behavioral and physical emergencies, always prioritizing the dignity and safety of the individuals they support. 

Participants must wear closed toed shoes, no half tops, and no short shorts.
